KNITTING TOGETHER

Have you ever wondered "What can I do to make our world a better place?" Knitting is an ancient practice of body, heart and mind. It is a creative act of caring attention, and an opportunity to express generousity. Intention and compassion become tangible for the being who receives the work of our hands and in the giving we remember our true nature.

Perhaps.....a comfortable shawl for a cancer patient undergoing chemotherapy or a tiny cap for a premature baby, even a warm colorful blanket for a homeless dog or cat....the possibilities are endless.

We meet once a month to knit as a community. Each session begins with a simple dedication fo our work. The items we create we donate to an organization of our choice. KNITTERS OF ALL LEVELS OF EXPERTISE ARE WELCOME. If you are new to knitting, or you could mentor someone who is, please let us know. 831-425-3388. Sunday November 16th. Beginning at 1 p.m. ending at 4 p.m.

Half Day Sittings

Half day sittings are alternating sitting (30 minute periods) and walking meditation. Beginners are welcome and encouraged to come to these activities as they are an excellent introduction to Soto Zen practice. More experienced practitioners are also encouraged as these sittings are a way to connect with deeper meditative experiences in the midst of our hectic daily lives.

November 9th - 8 a.m. - 12 noon.

Full Day Sitting:

December 7th - 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Traditionally Zen practitioners sit a week long retreat call Rohatsu from December 1st through the 7th. It is thought that Buddha was enlightened on the evening of December 7th. For this reason, we sit to commemorate that occasion and to actually sit with Buddha as we too allow our enlightened mind/body to come forward. Ocean Gate Zen Center will sit on the 7th with all beings as we participate in and commemorate the Buddha's Enlightenment. Please join us for this important date in the Soto Zen calendar.
